From 1981 until today we have grown from 6 eager members to a present roster of approximately 150 members. Our club consists of old and young, men and women, singles and families. We take pride in our community involvement with youth, and our preservation of archery.
How it all started. During the fall of 1981, six members called together a meeting hoping to organize a small group of people interested in archery. The response was overwhelming and by the winter of 1981-’82 we had 70 members. By 1982-’83, we had 85 members and started the process of becoming a legally organized, incorporated, and state-sanctioned archery club. By 1983-’84, we achieved this goal along with a membership of 100+ archers. In 1991, we were excited to complete the acquisition and remodel of our present building, giving our club a permanent facility and grounds.
Currently, within our 150+ membership, we have 12 Winter League teams and 4 Youth League teams that participate in league shooting from December to April.
Strong youth programs. Since our founding, we have actively introduced hundreds of youth to the sport of archery. This includes competition archery, archery hunting, safe practices on the range and in the field, and the ethics of sportsmanship and respect. Youth come through many avenues, such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and our Community Ed. programs. Many of our members donate their time to teach, train and manage these youth activities. And with the help of various local organizations, we are gladly able to provide and maintain all of the bows and equipment necessary for these programs.
Legacy. It is our hope that through our efforts to organize, build and maintain an active archery club, we will encourage the ideals of sportsmanship, responsibility, honor and respect-- both now and into the future.
